Bike and Walking Trails:
- Midtown Greenway- Nearly a six mile long route, the paths take you on a well-maintained, colorful trail. Its highlights include the Midtown Freewheel Bike Shop and acess to the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes. The route is three lanes for cyclists and walkers alike! It’s even plowed during the winter for those who enjoy a brisk ride in snow.
- Cannon Valley- This 19.7 mile long trail connects the cities of Cannon Falls, Welch and Red Wing. The snow doesn’t stop this trail either, it’s open year round for bicycling, in-line skating, skateboarding, hiking, walking and cross country skiing. The views are the main star here, highlighting the Cannon River.
- Brown’s Creek State Trail- Brown’s Creek is placed ontop of a former railroad grade, but has safe access for all types of trail users. The nearly six mile long trail highlights picturesque Brown Creek. Pedestrians can use the main trail but the back trails offer horseback riding, snowshoeing and environmental education.
Parks and Dog Parks:
- Lake Harriet Park- This park offers a huge list of attractions like a beach, boat dock, bike path, picnic area, playground and fishing dock! This is a perfect summer park destination. They host a variety of events including the Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival.
- Gold Medal Park- Gold Medal Park is a newer park, opened in 2007 and it has 7.5 acres of beautiful landscape. There’s a 32′ tall mound with a lookout bench amidst a grove of trees with good views of the Mississippi River, the historic Stone Arch Bridge, Guthrie Theater and the historic milling district.
